REGISTER BACKDROP
Steps Garden State Plaza
While preparing Steps's Garden State Plaza store, I was responsible for creating a piece of artwork to put on the wall behind the registers. This would be an important focal point for the store as it was directly in the center facing the doors, and all customers would see it as they walked in. The existing wall had a faux brick finish that was in mostly good condition, but the center had several holes where televisions had been mounted. I chose to keep the brick and create an installation that would cover the middle section to hide the existing holes.
I put together a proposal and budget for the project and coordinated with our builders to have the panel constructed and mounted on the wall. I installed the poster, letters, and LED strip, which plugged into an existing outlet on the wall behind the panel so that all wires were hidden.
The project went through a couple adjustments during construction, including the addition of a frame. I used RGB LED strips to backlight the panel, which could be controlled with a remote. Usually the color was set to a teal similar to Steps' signature color, but it could be changed for holidays and other events.
